Peterborough and Norwich Trophy Gala
It could not have been closer as St Neots Swans Swimming Club swam at last week's Peterborough and Norwich Trophy Gala, held at March.
Local rivalry was the order of the day as hosts March Marlins took on St Neots Swans and Huntingdon Piranhas.
Swans recorded a total of 20 personal best swims, 12 individual first place finishes, 14 second place finishes, three relay first places and overall joint second place by a single point.
This would have been bettered, but for eight swimmers who were "too" fast, beating the cut-off time for their age groups and therefore not securing any team points.
Leading the way for Swans with two first placed finishes each were Chloe Thompson and Joe Keech.
There were also first place finishes for Susannah Hall, Olivia Hooper, Elena Dymott, Bethan Lukey, Kimberley Stokes, Amy Hancock, Rebecca Layland and Ricky Thompson.
Swans' 20 PB performances were spread throughout the squad with Susannah Hall, Alistair Watkinson and Ryan Newell all recording two PBs each.
An excellent team performance was capped off by further PBs from the girls: Frankie Layland, Molly Kilpatrick, Chloe Thompson, Naomi Newell, Anna Bird, Hannah Bousfield, Bev Fletcher and Amy Hancock.
The boys also contributed to the PB collection with great performances from Joe Keech, Oliver Fitt, Scott Thomas, Jake Winterburn, Steven Carter and Michael Layland.
Full results : Huntingdon Piranhas 111 pts, St Neots Swans 110 pts and March Marlins 110 pts.
Linda Ashley-Davidson, Swans Head Coach said: "Another fantastic Swans' team performance. The swimmers seem to know no bounds when it comes to achieving personal and team goals.
For a Coach, so many wonderful swims from so many wonderful swimmers is the greatest of rewards.
All of the hours spent training have paid off and the rewards for the swimmers' dedication to training is very apparent when we achieve as much as we have done at this gala."
River Nene Swim
On sunday 9th August, 2 swimmers from Swans took part in a 2 mile open water swim in the River Nene at Oundle.
Andrew Burling and Graham Hiom.
Andrew Burling swimming his first race of this type did his usual stuff and went out quickly from the start and led all the way to the half way mark. He was in a group of 4, and the other 3 were all very experienced swimmers who had all completed the English channel swim at various times. The other swimmers were however too strong for Andrew and all overtook him during the second half of the race and he finished 4th in 55 minutes and 17 seconds. For his first ever swim this was a great performance and to be only beaten by channel swimmers, shows he could have a future in this type of event.
Grahm swam a consistent race to finish 11th out of 22 swimmers in 1 hour 9 minutes and 25 seconds, a similar time to last year.

Club Captains announced for 2009
Ashley Bygraves and Fiona Moore were announced as Club Captains for the coming year. The announcement was made at the Annual Presentation Evening held at St Neots Rugby Club on 12th December 2008.
Club Captain receives her award overseas
Unfortunately, Fiona Moore was unable to attend the Swans Presentation Evening in December, as the family flew out to her mother's home town of Bagabag in the Philippines on the day before. So, what to do? Well, there was only one solution - have your own presentation evening! As is tradition for the Swans presentation evenings, it was unknown to Fiona that she had done really well in the club championships, winning her age group overall and in addition she had been selected as Girls' Captain 2009. Thanks to Fiona's aunt who knew how to set the arrangements, Fiona was delighted to be duly summoned to the Mayors office where he, together with the Deputy Mayor and Fiona aunt, presented Fiona with a certificate that the Mayors office had had especially made up and framed. Congratulations Fiona!
